The Liberties Weavers showcases the creativity and skills of its members. The exhibition is centred around the revered figure of Brigid, Celtic goddess of fire, wisdom, and creativity. Through intricate weaving techniques and vibrant colours, the exhibition brings to life the essence of Brigid, capturing her multifaceted nature and enduring symbolism. Nestled in the heart of Dublin's historic Liberties district, The Liberties Weavers is a vibrant community group dedicated to reviving the rich tapestry of weaving heritage that has woven its way through the area's 1,000-year history. Trough a series of engaging workshops, weaving classes, exhibitions, and historical lectures, The Liberties Weavers are breathing new life into the art of weaving, inviting both experienced craft enthusiasts and curious newcomers to immerse themselves in the world of textiles and fibre arts. The group's mission is to nurture, promote, and celebrate the enduring legacy of weaving in the Liberties, encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to rediscover the joy of creating handcrafted textiles. With their passion for preserving the past and fostering creativity in the present, Te Liberties Weavers are weaving a tapestry of connection and community that resonates with the very soul of the Liberties.
The Liberties Weavers participated in the Culture Night and The Liberties Festival in the last years. They were awarded in 2022 the award of outstanding groups and projects by the Community Archives and Heritage Group, and the recognition of the Lord Major of Dublin. In 2023 they won the AONTAS STAR Award in the category of Learner Voices, part of the National Heritage Week 2023 Awards they won the County Award and the Price of Place Award in the Cities category.
