Projects presents the work of a vibrant new generation of young artists who are revitalizing painting, making it ever more relevant to contemporary discourse. Foregrounding recent concerns, ideas and trends, Thirty Two Thousand Years Later brings together a collection of Irish artists whose practice defines, through its richness of difference and the knowledge of its canon, the currency and impact of the medium today.

The exhibition involves a considered selection of artists who experiment with conventions of painting from diverse starting points. Their work examines materiality of paint and surface, narrative potential, landscape, abstraction, socio/political commentary, and allegory. The artists presented here, together for the first time and on such a scale, are successfully showing their work nationally and internationally, through exhibitions, artists’ awards and residencies, engaging with current agendas within art practice and defining and redrawing the parameters of what it means to be an international artist.
