Pallas Contemporary Projects is pleased to present Forward Pass a solo exhibition by Paris-based Irish artist John Lalor. Lalor’s work contains video, installation, poster/text, maquette building, and painting in multiples (the democratic paintings series), which reveal a linear landscape to the expense of the singular image. These include three new works, two of which are based on the Pallas gallery space. The artist’s texts are written in English and in French; his concerns are about making marks in an inexplicable universe, the significance of words and also journeys through painting, film and text.

Among other projects he is currently working on is his third short film entitled ‘BNF/MK2 – an urban incident’. This twenty minute production concerns the Dominique Perrault designed four glass towers, evoking Samuel Beckett, Jean Luc Godard, Buster Keaton and the MK2 cinema in the 13th arrondissement Paris.

Prior to the preview there will be a discussion between Jonanthan Lahey Dronsfield (Reader of philosophy-art Reading University London) and John Lalor at 5 pm in the gallery. This talk has been supported by the Arts Council, Travel and Training, inward mobility award.

Biographies:

John Lalor attended Limerick School of Art, Ireland. He has lived in France since 1988 and has exhibited widely in both countries, most recently in Temple Bar Gallery Dublin; Groupe Laura in Tours; Glassbox, and Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris, along with film-screenings at Centre d’art internationale Vassiviere; La Femis cinema with Pointligneplan, Paris and Temporarycontemporary, London. He was an active member and director of Glassbox, a pioneering artists-run space, from 2004-07 in Paris, and co-produced issue no 5 of the independent fanzine ‘Feint’ edited by Vaari Claffey.

Jonathan Lahey Dronsfield is Reader in Theory & Philosophy of Art, University of Reading, and sits on the Forum for European Philosophy at the London School of Economics. He has published many articles in the area of contemporary continental philosophy and art theory, and on the relation of art practice to ethics, in particular art’s resistance to ethics. He is currently writing a book with Thomas Hirschhorn and Marcus Steinweg on Headlessness.
