In the making presents a taste of the future. For three weeks in February 2020, Pallas Projects provides an exciting platform for emerging art practices, hosting three consecutive exhibitions of new work by degree year students from IADT’s BA in Art. Conceived as an experiment in learning through exhibition-making, the project has been developed with guidance from PP/S co-curator Gavin Murphy and assistance from post-graduate students on IADT’s MA in Art & Research Collaboration (ARC). Each exhibition will provide an early-stage glimpse into the ideas, materials and techniques currently being researched and tested by the BA students and a valuable opportunity for them to extend their practices beyond the IADT studios.
In the making is conceived in three instalments, titled To Let, Appraisal and Equity. A series of invited respondents have been asked to engage with a specific instalment and will be in conversation with IADT students as part of the exhibition’s public programme.

In the making 1: TO LET
Sarah Bogard, Louise Byrne, Trisha Carr, Conor Kelly, Aliesha Kirwan, Rory Malone, Ciara McGoldrick, Dianne Murphy, Amy Ní Mhurchú, Gary O’Reilly
TO LET brings together the work of Degree year Art students in the first of three exhibitions in Pallas Projects in February 2020.
TO LET is concerned with the social and spatial forms that characterise contemporary life. Several works in the exhibition explore the imagination and organisation of space within the urban environment, or within the realm of science. Others deal with social constructions, including those associated with masculinity and the behaviour of groups. Using a range of media, such as drawing, print, painting and sculptural installation, the artists follow diverse lines of enquiry that extend outwards from the perception of the self to the formation and representation of the pack.
In the making 2: Appraisal
Stephen Benzies, Kristina Bukhtanova, James Burke, Frances Hennigan, Ella Jepson, Derek Lawlor, Ellen McDaid, Chloe McKeown, Tilly Morris, Luke van Gelderen
Appraisal brings together the work of Degree year Art students in the second of three exhibitions at Pallas Projects in February 2020.
Appraisal considers the notion and mechanics of the network. Departing from the precariousness of connections— social, digital and ecological —many of the works in the exhibition analyse the natural and digital debris of our world. Several artists contemplate the ever-growing complexities of belonging in contemporary times, examining relationships and the characteristics of contemporary communication media. Materiality is also an important concern running throughout the exhibition, along with an appreciation of time and its role within the unfolding of practices.
In the making 3: Equity
Odhrán Cadwell, Grace Collins, Gemma Connor, Amy Downes , Amber Ferguson, Lana May Fleming, Jen Kerins, Annie Laing, Ruth Mathews, Matthew McCormick-Groves, Emma Mohan O'Grady
Equity brings together the work of Degree year Art students in the last of three exhibitions in Pallas Projects in February 2020.
Equity explores aspects of sensorial stimulation and desire, informed by reflection on the relationship between experience, memory and narrative construction. Some of the works in this exhibition borrow strategies from popular media to explore the commodification of bodies and the manipulation of attention within the digital age. The artists work with the properties of colour, line, pattern and texture, sometimes incorporating experimental approaches to technology, inviting embodied experiences and emotional responses.
