A Celebration of Art, Biodiversity & Climate Action

Pallas Projects presents a major new visual art project Ark Life, a community-focused artist-led programme celebrating biodiversity in Dublin City during Spring/Summer 2021.

The multifaceted project is centred around a new commission by artist Celina Muldoon, initiated by Pallas Projects and funded by the Arts Council, and involves a series of online and real-world workshops, in collaboration with local schools and community groups, culminating in a <currently postponed> celebratory parade linking green spaces in Dublin 8. The Ark Life parade will invite participants to celebrate biodiversity in the city, featuring wearable sculptures created through the workshop programme, and performed to a new score composed by collaborating artist Paul Murnaghan.

Additionally, an exhibition, including an online auction and <currently postponed> events programme, will take place, with proceeds going directly to participating artists and eco-focused groups. Featuring leading Irish contemporary artists, works can be viewed online here.

Throughout, we’re inviting the wider community to be part of Ark Life by creating your own wearable sculptures from Workshop resources, learning the Ark Life chant and music, and joining us this Summer to parade through Dublin 8!

Biographies:

Celina Muldoon is an artist based in Northwest Ireland. Research projects include collaboration with the dept. of Neuroscience in Trinity College Dublin which has been funded by the Arts Council 2020 Visual Arts Bursary. She has exhibited nationally, and internationally in Bushwick Studios N.Y., Cyberarts Gallery, Boston and with Craw festival Berlin. Her major multi-disciplinary work SIRENS has been funded by the Next Generation Award and the Artist in the Community Scheme Award from the Arts Council. Selected exhibitions include SIRENS for Live Collision, Dublin, 2019, SIRENS III solo exhibition in Kevin Kavanagh Gallery, Dublin, 2019 and SIRENS IV in Futures: Series 3; Episode 3, R.H.A. Dublin, 2019. She has completed residencies in Cowhouse Studios and Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annamakerrig. Her practice was selected as Temple Bar Gallery Artist in residence in St. Vincent's Primary School, Dublin supported by The Central Bank.

Paul Murnaghan is an artist based in Dublin. Solo exhibitions include, ‘All mountains are moving’ at Limerick City Gallery of Art and 'Penumbra' at The Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. His practice takes many forms, including the 3rd Biennial of International Video Art at The Hong-Gah Museum in Taiwan and MOPE (performance) at The Kunsti Museum of Modern Art in Finland. He has released several recordings under the moniker ‘WolloW’ and he was commissioned by Channel 4 in London to create a video/sound work for the art show ‘Random Acts’. Between 2000 and 2012 he curated approximately thirty exhibitions in Ireland. Murnaghan is a recipient of several Arts Council Awards and has been a resident artist at The International Studio & Curatorial Program in Brooklyn, New York and Platform, Finland. He has exhibited extensively, including numerous international group shows, with solo exhibitions in Finland, Estonia, Germany, United States and Ireland.
