Michelle Browne is an artist and curator based in Dublin. Her art practice is concerned with what it means to live together; how society organises itself - socially, politically and spatially - and how these relationships play out in the public arena. She brings people and their stories into the work, looking at society through people’s lived experience. Browne often makes artwork collaboratively with communities of interest or place, working site-specifically, using performative methods. She creates participative events and situations that engage people in active, embodied ways. By tapping into the skills and knowledge of diverse groups to make art she questions our shared experiences. She creates space for togetherness and interaction, investigating how, as individuals, we come together as a society.

Michelle studied Sculpture at National College of Art and Design in Dublin and received an MFA from the Dutch Art Institute in The Netherland. She has performed and exhibited both nationally and internationally most recently taking part in Meet you at the green? curated by Callan Workhouse Union Callan (2017); Invisible Cities for Heart of Glass, St. Helen's, UK (2016); My Brilliant Friend, Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin (2016); Kathleen Lynn Insider on the Outside, Ballinglen Centre, Ballycastle, Co Mayo (2016) Border Crossings, Galway Arts Centre and SASA Gallery, Adelaide, Australia (2016). She is currently developing Bring Your Own Chair, a performance in public space in 12 acts, across 12 small towns and villages in the South East region, funded by The Arts Council Open Call programme. Michelle has also curated a number of exhibitions including Out of Site a series of performances for public space in Dublin (2006-2008), Tulca Season of Visual Art in Galway, Ireland (2010), and These Immovable Walls: Performing Power at Dublin Castle (2014). From 2011-2013 she was Artist Advisor to the Dublin City Council Grafton Street Design Team and she is currently a lecturer in the Department of Sculpture and Expanded Practice at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
