I am interested in exploring the idea of ambiguity. By playing with illusory spaces, in my drawings and painting, the viewer is prompted to connect with their own personal memories and experience of reality. Placing found objects in an illusory theatrical setting, it is my intention to make drawings and subsequent paintings of said objects.
Ambiguity, in the context of my work, affords each viewer a different understanding or interpretation of the information presented based on their individual memories and experiences. The outcome of this engagement, by the viewer, is hopefully to provoke contemplation and discussion.
The subjects that most appeal to me are structural in their nature. Some found objects are discarded off-cuts of previous functional and or creative endeavours, while others are products of the “throw-away” culture of today. By placing these objects in a new and different context it is my intention to extract value from the said objects.
