I have been a practicing Artist for over twenty years, and in 2011 I completed my MFA in NCAD. Since then, I have been working with drawing and sculpture, and investigating ways of bringing my work to a wider audience; taking the work out of the private spaces of the studio and gallery and communicating directly with the general public. Most recently I have exhibited a large wall drawing, “Fruit Market Tree” at NAS Project Space: anotherwall drawing entitled “Wild Flowers of the Fruit Market Neighbourhood”, also at NAS Project Space, particularly for Culture Night, September 2014. I have been collaborating with artist Dorothy Smith to make “Walking/Drawing” an 8 metre long drawing accompanied by an audience engagement project. My practice is positioned in an Art and Ecology framework, addressing our attitudes and perceptions of how we live on Earth. I am particularly interested in how art can articulate this human / Earth relationship - how we affect our surroundings and how they affect us - in the context of the current ecological debate.
I have taken part in many group exhibitions, residencies and symposia both in Ireland and abroad. My work is represented in public and private collections and in many publications and catalogues. I have held solo exhibitions since 1994:- Orchard Gallery Derry (1994), Old Museum Arts Centre (1996), University of Wisconsin Gallery (1996), Roscommon Arts Centre and Droichead Arts Centre (2004), NAS (2013, 2014, 2015). Group exhibition include, Íontas, (1991, 1995, 2002), Oireachtas (1993), Random Access (1993), Human/Nature (1996, Canada), Source/Resource (1998, Wisconsin USA), Out of Belfast (1999, Ohio USA), Eire/Land Exhibition (2003, Boston USA), RHA (2007, 1012), Sculpture in Context (2007, 2012) Symposia and Residencies include, The Boglands (1990), Castlewellan Forest Park (1991), Snow Sculpture Symposium (1992, Luleä, Sweden), Drawing on Landscape (2005, Burren College of Art), Draiocht Residency (2013), Ballinglen Art Foundation (1996, 2000, 2004). I have held teaching posts in NCAD, and in Newry and Kilkeel College of Further and Higher Education. I have given lectures and talks on my work in numerous places including IADT, Dun Laoghaire, and I have held Visiting Artist posts including St Patrick’ Teacher Training College, Dublin, Ulster Museum, Belfast, University of Wisconsin, The Art Academy of Cincinatti, Denison University Ohio in USA. I hold a BA Fine Art (hons) from the University of Ulster, and an MFA from NCAD, Dublin.
