Lana May Fleming is a visual artist based in Dublin, whose work explores the destruction/production of desires through video installation and performative practices. By drawing a comparison between the construction of food imagery and the ways in which women’s images proliferate online, Fleming’s work highlights the loss of
individualisation caused by their reproduction. As both food and body are modified these entangled desires manifest into the personification of food and the ‘food-ification’ of the female body.
Fleming is a graduate from the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology Art programme. In 2020 she was awarded the Fingal Graduate Residency Award with Mart Gallery and Studios. Some recent exhibitions include: ‘meat clown’ solo show Bergen (2022), ‘MILF (Mother I’d Like to Eat)’ prøverommet and the Bergen centre for electronic arts), ‘you breathe differently down here’ curated by Amanda Coogan where she was awarded one of the panel prizes Draíocht (2022), and ‘MART Annual Awards Exhibition’ Mart Hx Studios (2021).
